Afghanistan

With all this week's media attention on Afghanistan regarding the upcoming elections, the official pardoning of a band of criminals by Karzai and the upcoming elections, I realised that most people including myself probably do not really know what really is going on. There is plenty of media coverage but it seems to be generally one-dimensional and actually can discourage interest in the everyday human tragedies happening.

Therefore, I have decided to signpost you to 2 sites this week that are covering the events from a more local point of view and highlight some of the atrocities being committed. Since Afghanistan is in the world political and military spotlight with the elections, this may be your opportunity to contact your political representatives and ask them to actually do something about the daily human rights abuses.

The first site is Canadian based and attempts to report the facts. If you go to the home page you can find lots of reports updated everyday about various "Global Security" issues.

The second site is from Afghanistan and does have some very interesting sections but I do not know how unbiased it is and from what political angle it comes from
